Revolutionary War American Blanket

Revolutionary War American Blanket

blanket was purchased from noted collector and dealer Robert Oswald many years ago and his ID tag accompanies the blanket,
“Revolutionary War American blanket, seamed down the
center with the initials “L.G”. Most likely an officers’ blanket, found in NY state probably Leonard Gansevoort, paymaster 2nd NY Regiment and probably related to Major Peter Gansevoort of the 2nd NY Regiment and later Brig. General of the NY State Militia”. Cream colored wool in excellent condition. While Oswald’s tag is supposition, knowing him for over 30 years I am aware of his excellent research. Blankets were also used as cold weather garments as well as for sleeping.
