English Silver Hilted c. 1680 Plug Bayonet with Scabbard

Overall length: 20". Blade length: 14". An exquisite example of an early plug bayonet w/ a plain, swept blade w/ a 5 1/2" false edge. There is an armorer’s mark on each side of the blade. Silver crossguard w/ pikeman head terminals. Silver ferrule & silver pommel cap w/ pikeman head top finial. Shaft of hilt appears to be a burled fruitwood w/ exceptional natural grain. Solid silver mounted, leather scabbard w/ punched decoration on the front. Silver pikeman head frog stud. Truly an exceptional plug bayonet both in design & form. The blade has a light gray cleaned finish. Silver on hilt has been polished in the English fasion.  Wood has a few expected drying cracks. Scabbard generally shows light wear w/ many shallow dents to the silver tip
