American Revolutionary War Shoulder Box ex. Neumann
American Revolutionary War Shoulder Box likely from the earlier war years. This is a very nice American shoulder box with long overhanging flap and excellent wooden block drilled for a large caliber musket rought .75 in. holes. Flap has a stamped X or St. Andrews cross on it as seen on some examples including one in Battle Weapons of the American Revolution p. 25. See similar examples on p. 26 and Collector's Illustrated Encyclopedia of the American Revolution p. 76-77. Metal buckles and elements removed in period. Seams split on back from age and sadly, a well meaning restoerer of the past tried to slow this by gluing the block and leather together. While unfortunate, it does not detract from the block, display capaibilty or appeal of an authentic early American Rev War box. Ex Neumann Collection. Roughly 8 in. x 3 in. 2 in.
